When I started at Simon no way did I ever imagine that I would be writing a blog. Much accustomed to the forms of traditional media I expected to work on the school magazine as I pursued those coveted three letters behind my name - MBA. Never did I expect to delve headfirst into social media. Yet here I am and I must tell you I am extremely delighted. This is exciting stuff!
Let me tell you a bit about myself (Fear not - Our Career Management Center has given me lots of advice on how to do this succinctly). My name is Marita Greenidge and I am a 25-year old Simon MBA student from the lovely island of Barbados. I acquired my undergraduate degree at the University of the West Indies (UWI) in Barbados where I majored in Economics and Management. After graduation, I taught Introductory Mathematics, Statistics and Microeconomics part-time at the UWI while maintaining my full-time job as a business journalist. Much in love with teaching, I also tutored kids 9-11 in Math and English.
I decided to pursue an MBA because I wanted to launch my own magazine. Odd right? Why go to business school if you want to dedicate your life to media? Well, I thought I had the creative skills covered and wanted to make sure I got the business skills.
At Simon I am majoring in Marketing and Strategy after a swift change from Finance and Accounting. I am co-Managing Editor of the school magazine and VP of Events for the Entrepreneurship Club. I am also co-coordinator and consultant at the school's writing center. Currently I am interning at the Rochester Angel Network (RAN), a non-profit organization that facilitates angel investing.
Everything I do encompasses all my great loves - writing, teaching, broadening my knowledge and entrepreneurship. I hope that through my writing I may teach you phenomenal aspects about the field of entrepreneurship and through our interactions you will help to broaden my knowledge.
